Turn up with the equipment you already own and leave able to get a clean recording out of it. Nothing is sold from the front of the room.

A good share of what people bring to a workshop turns out to be a question about equipment — what to buy, what it plugs into, and why the thing they own is not doing what they hoped. That part is written down and free.
